Dr. Chet Moore, our very first "Spotlight", was chosen in 1984 to develop a Jazz Festival for the Redding community. He immediately set out to establish a support group of local jazz lovers to take responsibility of the many volunteer man hours necessary to have a successful Jazz Festival ... and WATCH OUT, WORLD!

The Rivercity Jazz Society was formed.

It was, indeed, a wise move. Since that time, the Jazz Society has become an extremely successful organization. Jazz has been kept alive with our great monthly concerts, youth programs and music camps.

Chet's amazing music background made the Redding Festival one of the finest in the world. He had participated in the Chautauqua Circuits in the 1920's ... had his own dance bands, played with top bands in the 30's, obtained a music degree in the 40's, and continued with his musical talents since that time. Whew.

As he was semi-retired from his dentistry profession, he was a "natural" for the Redding Community to pick as the first Festival Director. Dr. Chet's wit, humor, devotion to jazz, and support to our Rivercity Jazz Society will be long remembered. He was chosen by the Society to become their #1 Gold Card member.

During Sunday concerts and Jazz Festival Guest Bands, Chet is invited to participate with his Vibes. This man handles mallets along the keys of his Vibes like a dancer on hot coals !!!!

Chet began his music career in Baldwin, Kansas, at age three -on the DRUMS! (1920's) He was the youngest of 6 children, all musicians! (Wouldn't a family reunion be great?) His father made his way through dental school playing with John Philip Sousa AND Ringling Barnum & Bailey Circus bands! He closed his dental practice every summer (1922-1932)and the family travelled to perform every night in a different town across the Western U.S. (remember, click on the picture to see larger image)
