SISTER SWING
VALERIE MARSTON - Lead Singer
with BONNIE OTTO SEXTET
by Maurice Huff
WHAT A TREAT WE ARE GOING TO HAVE THIS MONTH !!! These three
wonderful ladies are going to take us back to those WORLD WAR II era
songs that were so pretty.
Most of our membership remembers the different ladies singers, like the
Andrews Sisters, McGuire Sisters, Fontane Sisters, and others. So, you’re
going to get your SOCKS KNOCKED OFF when you hear Valerie, Paula and
Leigh singing jazz standards with a contemporary punch !!! They really bring
fresh new energy to the war-era Big Band tunes. These ladies have
performed with the NELSON RIDDLE ORCHESTRA, the MOONLIGHT
SWING BIG BAND, and recently had the honor of singing for BOB HOPE at
a USO-style show in Stockton, CA.
AND FOLKS, for an added treat, BONNIE OTTO’S six piece combo will
be backing these singers. (Yes. This is *the* one and only Bonnie Otto, Piano,
with the WOODEN NICKEL J.B.)
VALERIE MARSTON, Lead Singer, is co-owner of Puddingstone Productions,
a recording studio in Sacramento, combining musical savvy with state-of-the-
art 32-track digital recording.
PAULA CHAFEY-MERRILL sang with the *Original Sisters* in Oklahoma.
She’s sung with the Jimmie Swaggart Ministries and toured the western U.S.
with the Cross-Section Singers.
LEIGH HANNAH sang in choirs and performed at Carnegie Hall, toured
Canada, and performed at the National Concert Hall in Dublin, Ireland.
FELLOW JAZZERS, WHAT MORE CAN I SAY ??
