TOMMY TUCKER, Piano, etc.
BEEZ’ KNEEZ JAZZ BAND
Norm Gary, Leader, “Reeds”
by Maurice Huff
This month, we have a band that not only sounds terrific, but is a very “fun
band”. They improvise and never play their tunes the same way twice. And
why does this band sound so great? One reason is the musicians: Norm “Doc”
Gary, clarinet; Bill “Lips” Crow, trumpet; Donald “Scotty” Harper, bass; Mike
“Cuz” Hudson, trombone; Carl “Sticks” Warmdahl, drums; Tommy “Fingers”
Tucker, piano, trumpet, flugelhorn!
TOMMY TUCKER is like two musicians in one. He’s not only a master on
the piano, but also on the trumpet. He worked for Glenn Miller’s brother,
Herb - band credits include 360th Army Service Band, Red Nichols, Charlie
Barnet, Al Donahue, Ted Lewis, and his own bands, too. He has backed
Roberta Sherwood and he plays with All Star Bands in the Sac Jazz Jubilee.
Sometimes, watching Tommy at the piano, you’d think he has more than ten
fingers !
You never know, though, if you see him on the local bands, he may be playing
either piano or trumpet. He has played with J M Jazz, Nite Flite, Beez’
Kneez, Gold Standard Music Co. He also arranges music, a Sac. Jazz Society
member 15 years and on the Board of Directors. During the festival, Tommy
and wife, Virginia, park their RV at Cal Expo and then vanish to go play
different gigs during the pre-festival all over town!
Fellow Jazzers - with Tommy so dedicated to our Dixieland Jazz - and
our Beez’ Kneez musicians, Sacramento will never run out of our kind of music
(OKOM).
Beez’ Kneez plays 1st and 3rd Saturdays at Round Table Pizza, “Florin
Road” - Sacramento. 7 - 10 PM.
JAZZERS - DON’T MISS THIS SUNDAY CONCERT!
ONE-LINERS ... JUST FOR THE SHEER JOY OF IT !
Humor prevents hardening of the attitudes.
BUMPER STICKERS:
"I get enough exercise just pushing my luck !"
"If everything is coming your way, you're probably in the wrong lane!"
"We have enough youth. How about a 'Fountain of Smart' ?"
