CLANCY’S REVENGE
from Sacramento
Matt Bottel, Leader/Banjo
by Maurice Huff (email: rhuff@c-zone.net)
FELLOW JAZZERS ...
What I have for you this month is somewhat ‘different’ in the sense that
this is a very *FUN* Dixieland band.
The CLANCY’S REVENGE J.B. is made up mostly of the Catsnjammers Jazz
Band, with Matt Bottel from the same band - (as Leader here)--on banjo,
along with Gene Berthelson, cornet; Trent Teague, drums; Jean Levinson,
tuba; Bob Williams, trombone; Tom Schmidt, reeds. Also appearing from the
Catsnjammers is Bill Richards on piano, a very welcome member of this band.
CLANCY’S was a legendary joint in Old Sacramento which hosted Saturday
and Sunday JAZZ and other ‘hi jinx’ for several years before being replaced
by a sandwich parlor (that failed miserably).
Regardless, *Camelot* was gone, and the disgruntled musicians who
performed there never forgave the owner for his perfidy.
THIS IS CLANCY’S REVENGE:
"THE DARKSIDE OF DIXIELAND JAZZ,
HEARD ONLY WHEN THE MOON IS FULL."
After hearing this band, I’m betting our membership will really enjoy
these guys. They had me ... where ... I could hardly sit in the chair while watching
them ! Good music with good humor.
