Nevel BENNETT (James1) was born in Anderson County, Pendleton District, South Carolina. He was born on September 08, 1808 [S4]. Nevel moved with his parents as a toddler to Hall County, Georgia. Nevel was married to Nancy Smith. They were married in Hall County, Georgia. Nevel and Nancy were married on August 26, 1830 by Philip May BYRD, Justice of the Peace. Philip is Nevel's uncle. Nancy was born on February 02, 1813 in (Oglethorpe County?) Georgia. She is a daughter of Nathaniel and Sara Aaron SMITH. They had the following children: James A.(aron?) BENNETT, Sarah M.(ary?) BENNETT, Thomas F. BENNETT, John C.(laude?) BENNETT, Nancy Emmeline BENNETT, Amanda Elvina Victoria "Mandy" BENNETT and Messineh Jane "Sina" BENNETT.
Nevel and Nancy didn't leave Hall County after Nevel's parents left. Nancy died on January 18, 1843 in Hall County, Georgia. She was buried at The Bennett Family Cemetery in Hall County.
Nevel also married Alethey Ann Elizabeth ILLEY. They were married in Hall County, Georgia. Nevel and Elizabeth were married on August 07, 1844. Elizabeth was born on February 26, 1820 in Georgia. She is a daughter of Richard and Phoebe "Fereby" Inman ILLEY. They had the following children: Mary Frances BENNETT, Russell J. BENNETT, B. Angeline BENNETT, P.(hoebe?) B. BENNETT, Lewis Howell Cobb BENNETT and Davis Walton BENNETT.
She died in Hall County on February 14, 1892. Elizabeth is buried at The Chamblee Family Cemetery. The September 25, 1897 Gainesville Eagle had an article called "An Old Citizen" about Nevel. The following is the article "Mr. Nevell Bennett, who is perhaps the oldest citizen of Hall County, was in Gainesville Thursday. He is over 90 years old, and came to Hall County before it was laid out and organized. He was here before Gainesville was incorporated, and has killed deer and picked chiquepins and chestnuts where the public square is now situated. The Red Man was here in large numbers in those days, and a familiar figure. Mr. Bennett, although he has lived nearly a century, is hale and hearty and gets around remarkable well." Nevel died on February 05, 1899 in the Fork District, Hall County, Georgia. He was buried at Antioch Methodist Church Cemetery near Sardis, Hall County, Georgia.
Thomas Byrd "Tom" BENNETT (James1) was born in Anderson County, Pendleton District, South Carolina. He was born on December 12, 1810 [S5]. Tom moved with his parents as a toddler to Jackson now Hall County, Georgia.
Tom migrated south with his father. He married Elizabeth J. McLENDON in Meriwether County, Georgia. Tom and Elizabeth were married on September 30, 1835. Elizabeth was born about 1821 in Georgia. She is the daughter of Jepthah Cooper and Lucy Head McLENDON. They had the following children: William BENNETT, Lucy Ann BENNETT, Nancy BENNETT, James BENNETT, Eliza A. BENNETT, Philip BENNETT, Martha BENNETT and Elizabeth BENNETT. According to family tradition John BENNETT, Tom's uncle, also lived in Meriwether County.
It appears Tom moved with his father to Russell County, Alabama in 1837. According to the census records Tom and family lived in Barbour County, Alabama in 1850. The last record I have of is that they lived in Butler County, Alabama in 1860. It appears that Tom died before 1880. Elizabeth was living in Lee County, Arkansas in the 1880 census. She was living with two of her grown daughters.
Silas Anderson BENNETT (James1) was born in Jackson now Hall County, Georgia. He was born on February 19, 1813 [S6]. Silas migrated south with his father. He married Matilda Ann KINSEY in Fayette County, Georgia. Silas and Matilda were married on May 14, 1835. Matilda was born about 1821 in Georgia. They had the following children: Louisa BENNETT, Risden BENNETT and Sarah BENNETT.
According to Alabama land records Silas secured a grant of land in 1839. This property was located near Clayton, Barbour County, Alabama. Matilda died in the 1850s in Alabama.
Silas also married Nancy C. GALLAWAY. They were married on February 10, 1859 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. The last record I have is that they lived in Tallapoosa County, Alabama in 1860.
Frances "Fannie" BENNETT (James1) was born in Jackson now Hall County, Georgia. She was born on December 15, 1815 [S7]. Fanny did not move south with her father. Fannie was married to John Henderson OWEN. They were married on October 14, 1841 in Georgia. They had the following child: William OWEN
During the Civil War John served with the Chestatee Artillery of the Confederate Army from October 01, 1862 until August 26, 1863. John died on September 20, 1887 in Forsyth County, Georgia. According to the 1900 census Fannie lived in Forsyth County, Georgia.
Sarah Margarette BENNETT (James1) was born in (Habersham County?), Georgia. She was born on February 17, 1820 [S8]. Sarah moved south with her parents and sibilings. Eventually the made it to Russell County, Alabama.
Sarah met and married to Charles J. Floyd. They were married on January 14, 1841 in Russell County, Alabama [S9]. Sarah died near Opelika, Chambers (now Lee County), Alabama. She died on July 18, 1857 [S10].
