THIRD GENERATION


Thomas C.(icero?) BAXTER (Eliza Jo BURT2, Elijah1) was born in May 1857 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. Thomas was raised around the Log Cabin area of Wills Valley. He married Susan BROWDER on January 09, 1879 in DeKalb County, Alabama. She was born on July 14, 1859 in Alabama. They had the following children: Lillie BAXTER, Effie BAXTER, Edith Kate BAXTER, Robert E. BAXTER and Sallie E. BAXTER.

According to the 1900 census Thomas and Susan were farming near Lebanon area. Susan died on March 12, 1909 in DeKalb County, Alabama. She is buried at the Glenwood Cemetery in Fort Payne, DeKalb County, Alabama. Thomas died in 1942 in Dekalb County, Alabama. He is also buried at the Glenwood Cemetery.


Mary Pallestine BAXTER (Eliza Jo BURT2, Elijah1) was born on December 15, 1859 near Lebanon, Dekalb County, Alabama. Mary was raised around the Log Cabin area of Wills Valley. She married Green Berry CUNNINGHAM on February 18, 1877 in DeKalb County, Alabama. They had the following child: Evergreen CUNNINGHAM.

Green died two months before his daughter was born on February 15, 1878 in Dekalb county, Alabama. He died from a bout of Typhoid Fever. He is buried at the Glenwood Cemetery in Fort Payne. Mary died on May 14, 1941 in DeKalb County, Alabama. She is buried at Mount Hermon Cemetery near Fort Payne.


Willis BAXTER, II (Eliza Jo BURT2, Elijah1) was born in January 1861 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. Willis married Angeline PRIVETT on October 31, 1883 in Dekalb County, Alabama. Angeline was born on December 1, 1867 in Alabama. They had the following children: Oscar B. BAXTER and Houston B. BAXTER.

Angeline died on January 12, 1887 in Dekalb County, Alabama. She is buried at the Gravel Hill (Collbran) Cemetery near Collbran, DeKalb County, Alabama.

Willis also married Sarah Jane LYONS on January 12, 1890 in DeKalb County, Alabama. Sarah was born on May 4, 1871 in Alabama. She is the daughter of John and Sarah Tarver LYONS. Willis and Sarah had the following children: Dollie BAXTER, John Jesse BAXTER, Leona "Lonnie" BAXTER, Mae BAXTER, Erskin BAXTER and Lena BAXTER.

Willis died on June 16, 1908 in Brandon, Dekalb County, Alabama. He is buried at Gravel Hill Cemetery. Sarah died on September 29, 1939 in Collbran, DeKalb County, Alabama. She is also buried at Gravel Hill Cemetery.


Ellen BAXTER (Eliza Jo BURT2, Elijah1) was born in 1871 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. She married Samuel William "Sam" LYONS in about 1893 in DeKalb County, Alabama. Sam was born in 1873 in DeKalb County, Alabama. He is the son of John and Sarah Tarver LYONS. Ellen and Sam had the following children: Jennie Eliza LYONS, Lucy LYONS, Jessie LYONS, John Tom LYONS, Anna Lee LYONS, Cecil Clifton LYONS, Samuel Green LYONS and Evie Beulah LYONS.

Ellen died on March 27, 1937 in DeKalb County, Alabama. She is buried at Shiloh Baptist Cemetery near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. Sam died on March 6, 1960 in DeKalb County, Alabama. He is buried in Glenwood Cemetery in Fort Payne, DeKalb County, Alabama.


Francis Marion BURT (James2, Elijah1) was born on August 27, 1853 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. Marion grew up in Wills Valley near Log Cabin School. He married Margaret E.(lizabeth?) EDMONDSON on August 22, 1872 in DeKalb County, Alabama. Margaret was born on March 09, 1853 in Alabama. They had the following children: Thomas W. BURT, James Irvin "Jim" BURT, Marvin Jackson BURT, Oscar L. BURT, Bennie W. BURT, Lonnie C. "Lon" BURT, Lula Elizabeth "Lou" BURT and Charles Sumpter "Charley" BURT.

According to family tradition they moved to Texas in the 1890s. Things did not work out there and they came back to Alabama. Margaret died August 03, 1893 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama.

Marion married Martha E. EVATT on April 09, 1897 at Martha's parents home on Lookout Mountain in DeKalb County, Alabama. Martha was born on July 27, 1871 in Forysth County, Georgia. She is the daughter of Albert Hunley and Martha E. Garner EVATT. They had the following children: Earnest Earl BURT and Allie Mae BURT.

Marion, Martha, and children: Marvin, Lon, Lou, Charley and Earl moved to the Ruhama community on Lookout Mountain in about 1901. Marion lost his parents, wife and daughter Allie all in 1904. Martha died on September 04, 1904 near Dogtown, DeKalb County, Alabama. She is buried at Walker's Chapel also near Dogtown.

Marion married Ada Mamie WHITE on January 05, 1911 in DeKalb County, Alabama. Ada was born on January 28, 1888 in DeKalb County, Alabama. She is the daughter of James H. and Larinda C. "Lara" WHITE. They had the following children: Leola BURT, Alton Richardson BURT, Orbie Austin BURT, Reuben Marion "Rube" BURT, Johnnie Lloyd BURT, Nellie Edith BURT, Margie Ellen BURT, Lula Gertrude BURT and Vivian Lucille BURT.

Marion died on September 21, 1929 near Dogtown, DeKalb County, Alabama. He is buried at Walker's Chapel. Ada died on April 21, 1954 in Fort Payne, DeKalb County, Alabama. She is also buried at Walker's Chapel.


James William "Billy" BURT (James2, Elijah1) was born on June 19, 1856 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. Billy grew up in Wills Valley near Log Cabin School. He married Mary Ann FRAZIER on November 09, 1879 in DeKalb County, Alabama. Ann was born on February 14, 1856 in DeKalb County, Alabama. They had the following children: Ella BURT, Virginia V. "Jennie" BURT, James Bain BURT, Elizabeth Jane "Bessie" BURT, Reuben Frazier "Rube" BURT, Joe John BURT and Marietta BURT.

Billy died on July 16, 1897 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. He is buried at the Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. Ann died on April 29, 1928 near Lebanon. She is also buried at the Lebanon Cemetery.


Mary Lucinda BURT (James2, Elijah1) was born on April 19, 1860 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. Lucinda grew up in Wills Valley near Log Cabin School. She married Robert Walter FRAZIER on March 14, 1880 in DeKalb County, Alabama. Robert was born on January 27, 1857 in DeKalb County, Alabama. He is the son of John Bain and Virginia Lankford FRAZIER. They had the following children: John Bain FRAZIER, Emma FRAZIER, Walter FRAZIER, Wyatt FRAZIER, Howard Roy FRAZIER, Ida FRAZIER, Lelia FRAZIER and Virginia FRAZIER.

Lucinda died on June 21, 1899 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. Robert died on September 16, 1907 in DeKalb County, Alabama. They are both buried at Lebanon Cemetery.


Thomas Reuben BURT (James2, Elijah1) was born on October 18, 1861 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. Rube grew up in the Wills Valley like the rest of his siblings. He married Nancy P. KILLIAN on January 22, 1882 in DeKalb County, Alabama. Nan was born on March 20, 1866 in DeKalb County, Alabama. She is the daughter of John and Pheroby Lewis KILLIAN. They had the following children: John Ambrose BURT, James Edwin BURT, Pherby Elizabeth "Lizzie" BURT, Dora Allie BURT, Ethel Mae BURT and Thomas Rupert BURT.

Rube and Nan were memebers of the Methodist Church.Nan had been a memeber since a small child and Rube joined in about 1886.

Rube, Nan and their son John moved 735 miles west to Texas in 1888. They lived in Hunt County, Texas near Caddo Mills for about 9 years. In 1897 Rube, Nan, and children: John, James, Lizzie and Allie moved about 184 miles SW to Comanche County, Teaxs. They lived near Mercer Creek community for about 8 years. In 1915 they moved to Comanche. The 1900 census lists Rube and Nan as farners. Rube died on March 21, 1938 in Comanche, Comanche County, Texas. He is buried at the Oakwood Cemetery. Nan was fatally burned at her home in Comanche. She was taken to Gorman hospital for treatment. Nan died in 1947 in Gorman, Eastland County, Texas. She is also buried at Oakwood Cemetery.


Lillie Daily BURT (James2, Elijah1) was born in 1865 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. Daily married John T. BOHANON on January 24, 1886 in DeKalb County. They had the following children: Zora Mae BOHANON and Cora BOHANON. John died in the early 1890s in Dekalb County, Alabama.

A few years later Daily married Matson J. "Matt" BRYANT. Matt was born in 1874. They had the following children: Jack BRYANT, Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" BRYANT, James William "Will" BRYANT, George Franklin BRYANT, Robert Collins "Bob" BRYANT and Altha J. BRYANT.

They moved to Texas. I don't know when but eventually they made it to Scurry County, Texas. Daily died in 1952 in Scurry County, Texas near Snyder. Matt died in 1958. They are both buried at the Ira Cemetery in Scurry County.


Desdemonia BURT (James2, Elijah1) was born on January 30, 1876 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. Des married W. Elijah BRYANT in Alabama. Lige was born on March 23, 1869.

I don't know much about the family they moved to Texas. Lige died on November 07, 1933 in Texas. Des died on June 25, 1962 in Scurry County, Texas.


Ryal Alexander BURT (Henry2, Elijah1) was born on October 09, 1860 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. Ryal grew up in the Wills Valley with his siblings and cousins. He married Elizabeth Adilade KILLIAN. Addie was born on July 03, 1866 in DeKalb County, Alabama. She is the daughter of Daniel Shepard and Mary Ann Winston KILLIAN. They had the following children: Henry D. BURT, Gaddie Edgar BURT and Grover Cleveland "Cleve" BURT.

Ryal and Addie lived in Georgia for awhile, eventualy moving back to Alabama. They lived in the Collbran community of DeKalb County. Addie died on September 01, 1921 in DeKalb County, Alabama. She is buried at the Gravel Hill Cemetery near Collbran. Ryal died on March 21, 1933 in DeKalb County, Alabama.


Wallace Clay BURT (Henry2, Elijah1) was born on March 02, 1862 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. Shortly after Wallace was born his father left for the Army. Fortunately his father made it through the war and came home. He married A. Louisa HANNAH on November 27, 1895 in DeKalb County, Alabama. Lousia was born on August 06, 1874 in Alabama. They had the following child: Edna Beulah BURT. Louisa died a little over three months after Edna's birth on March 10, 1897. Louisa is buried at the Gravel Hill Cemetery near Collbran.

Wallace married again. He married Amanda Melissa KILLIAN on October 16, 1898 in DeKalb County. Amanda was born on November 08, 1871 in DeKalb County. She is the daughter of William Thomas and Catherine Chitwood KILLIAN. They had the following children: Ethel Lenora BURT, Ryal Erskine BURT, William Henry BURT, Otis Baxter BURT, Katharine Mae BURT, Jessie Josephine BURT, George Wallace BURT, Alexander Clay BURT, Daniel Clayton BURT, Tennie Maude BURT and Claude Dallas BURT.

Wallace and Amanda raised their family near Collbran. Wallace died on April 12,1940 in DeKalb County, Alabama. He is buried at Gravel Hill. Amanda died on July 19, 1966 in DeKalb County, Alabama. She is also buried at Gravel Hill.


Susannah Josephine BURT (Henry2, Elijah1) was born on December 10, 1868 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. Josie married Elijah Bennett HANNAH on February 25, 1897 in DeKalb County, Alabama. Bennett was born on July 09, 1861 in Alabama. They had the following children: Otis Bennett HANNAH and Naomi O. HANNAH.

Josie and Bennett lived in the Valley near Collbran. Josie's dad lived with them after her mother passed. Bennett died on January 13, 1902 in DeKalb County. He is buried at Gravel Hill Cemetery. Josie died on June 18, 1958 in DeKalb County. She is buried at Gravel Hill Cemetery as well.


John Thomas BURT (Calvin2, Elijah1) was born on November 30, 1860 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. Tom's dad died when he was three years old, presumably from the War. His mother remarried not many years later. He was raised by his step-father Ira F. DOBBS.

Tom married Margaret A. PRIVETT on October 18, 1883 in DeKalb County, Alabama. Margaret was born on November 11, 1864 in Alabama. She is the daughter of Thompson and Rhoda Bohanon PRIVETT. They had the following children: Charlie BURT, Infant son BURT, Annie B. BURT, Sherman Thomas BURT, Martha Alma BURT, Ira Luther BURT, Thomas Arnold BURT, Gussie E. BURT, Dovie Alice BURT, Mamie BURT and Bessie Mae BURT.

It appears by census records that Tom and Margaret moved to Lookout Mountain by 1900. They owned a farm in The Walker's Chapel precinct. That is probably the Ruhama community (aka Dogtown). According to the 1920 census they lived in the Loveless community. Tom died on October 30, 1925 in DeKalb County, Alabama. Margaret died on February 05, 1947. They are both buried at Walker's Chapel.


Elisha BURT (Thomas2, Elijah1) was born on December 12, 1864 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. Elisha grew up in the Valley. Sometime in the 1890s his parents and siblings moved to the Lookout Mountain near the Ruhama community. He married Nancy Jane DOBBS on September 05, 1892 in Dekalb County, Alabama. Nannie was born on March 06, 1870 in DeKalb County, Alabama. She is the daughter of Ira F. and Sarah E. Hardwick Burt DOBBS. They had the following Children: Robert Lee BURT, James Rufus "Jimmie" BURT, Ruth BURT and Anna Lester BURT.

Nannie died on February 04, 1898 in Dekalb County, Alabama. She is buried at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. Elisha and children: Robert, Jimmie and Lester moved to Lookout Mountain and lived on Elisha's parents farm.

Elisha married again. He married Elizabeth Delilah McKINNEY on November 15, 1903 in DeKalb County, Alabama. Lizzie was born on March 25, 1880 in Cobb County, Georgia. She is the daughter of Samuel Augustus and Martha Strawn McKINNEY. Elisha and Lizzie had the following children: Lettie Elizabeth BURT, Thomas BURT, Samuel Alfred "Sam" BURT, Houston Bailey BURT, Hula Beatrice BURT, George Washington BURT, Regina Lorene "Jean" BURT, Mary Ruth BURT and Bessie Mae BURT.

Elisha and Lizzie farmed on Lookout Mountain living next to the farms of his siblings and parents. According to census records it was located on the Centre and Fort Payne road. Lizzie died on September 28, 1925 in DeKalb County, Alabama. She is buried at Walker's chapel. Elisha died on October 14, 1949 in DeKalb County. He is also buried at Walker's Chapel.


Cornelia Jane BURT (Thomas2, Elijah1) was born on November 23, 1870 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. Neely grew up in the Valley near Log Cabin School. She married Lodowick Adam DOBBS on October 05, 1893 in DeKalb County, Alabama. Lod was born on November 12, 1872 in DeKalb County, Alabama. He is the son of Ira F. and Sarah E. Hardwick Burt DOBBS. They had the following children: Roscoe Ernest DOBBS, Evie T. DOBBS, Bonnie DOBBS, Charlie Hubert DOBBS, Henry Van DOBBS and Wallace George DOBBS.

Lod and Neely moved to Lookout Mountain by 1900 and lived near Neely's parents. Neely died on July 13, 1936 in DeKalb County, Alabama. She is buried at Walker's Chapel. Lod died in 1957 in DeKalb County, Alabama. He is also buried at Walker's Chapel.


Pallestine BURT (Thomas2, Elijah1) was born on May 28, 1876 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama.She grew up in the Valley near Log cabin school with her siblings and Burt and Baxter cousins. Pallie married her cousin Elisha BURT, Jr. on January 08, 1898 in Cherokee County, Alabama. Elisha was born on April 17, 1876 near Lebanon, DeKalb County, Alabama. He is the son of Elisha and Tempa Copeland BURT. They had the following children: Joseph J. BURT and Carl BURT.

Elisha and Pallie lived on Lookout Mountain in the Ruhama Community near both of their parents. According to records they farmed. Pallie died on May 14, 1907 in DeKalb County, Alabama. She is buried at Shiloh Baptist Cemetery. Elisha remarried that will be addressed in his entry.
