SECOND GENERATION


Mary Elizabeth CARTER (Rine1) was born on December 15, 1844 in Fairfield County, Ohio. She may not have moved out with her mother and sibilings in 1864. Mary married Franklin Moses GRUBB on September 17, 1867 in Fairfield County, Ohio. I do not at thisa time know much more about her family. It does appear that they eventually moved to Mercer County, Ohio. Mary died on December 7, 1922 near Montezuma, Mercer County, Ohio. She is buried at The Ellis Cemetery near Montezuma.


William Henry CARTER (Rine1) was born on February 21, 1847 in Fairfield County, Ohio [S2]. Henry came to Mercer County, Ohio in about 1864 with his mother and family. He married Lavina Searial LACY on December 25, 1873 in Montezuma, Mercer County, Ohio [S3]. Lavina was born on May 3, 1851 in Franklin Township, Mercer County, Ohio [S2]. She is the daughter of William and Amelia Emily Beauchamp LACY. Henry and Lavina had the following children: Minnie CARTER, William Lacy "Willie" CARTER, Frank CARTER and Henry Lewis "Harry" CARTER

Lavina died on April 1, 1880 near Montezuma, Mercer County, Ohio [S2,S4]. She was buried in April 1880 in The Ellis Cemetery near Montezuma, Mercer County, Ohio [S2]. Henry and children followed his parent-in-laws to North Dakota. Henry and his son Willie worked the LACY farm and took care of the stock, while William LACY drove 25 miles to Washburn every day to preside as Judge of McLean County, North Dakota.

Henry eventually moved back to Ohio. He died on November 27, 1924 in Montezuma, Mercer County, Ohio [S2]. Henry was buried on November 30, 1924 in The Ellis Cemetery near Montezuma, Mercer County, Ohio [S2].


Samuel Jacob CARTER (Rine1) was born on April 9, 1852 near Rushville, Fairfield County, Ohio. He married Dianah Jane "Annie" GRAY on January 1, 1878 in Greene County, Ohio. Annie was born on August 21, 1855 near Coldwater, Mercer County, Ohio. She is the daughter of George W. and Sarah Bone GRAY. They had the following children: Kitty Opal CARTER, George Rine CARTER, Caddie CARTER, James Melvin CARTER, (Infant) CARTER, Jacob Casper CARTER, Ferman Preston "Ferne" CARTER, William Mc Kinley "Mack" CARTER, Jesse CARTER and John CARTER

In the 1880 census of Mercer County Jacob is listed as a carpenter. In the 1900 and 1910 census he is listed as a home farmer. Annie died on April 16, 1909 in Montezuma, Mercer County, Ohio. She was buried in April 1909 in The Ellis Cemetery, Montezuma, Mercer County, Ohio. He died at the home of his daughter, Caddie PRESTON, on August 2, 1919 in Mercer County, Ohio. His obituary states the funeral was at the Preston home. Jacob was buried in August 1919 in The Ellis Cemetery near Montezuma, Mercer County, Ohio.


Margaret Ellen CARTER (Rine1) was born on May 28, 1858 near Rushville, Fairfield County, Ohio. She married John ELLIS on September 18, 1877 in Montezuma, Mercer County, Ohio. John was born on March 11, 1851 near Montezuma, Mercer County, Ohio. He is the son of Isaac and Emily J. ELLIS. They had the following children: Isaac ELLIS ,II, Samuel ELLIS, Emma Caroline ELLIS and Odessa ELLIS

Ellen died on November 3, 1885 near Montezuma, Mercer County, Ohio. She was buried in November 1885 in The Ellis Cemetery near Montezuma, Mercer County, Ohio. He died on June 15, 1887 near Montezuma, Mercer County, Ohio. John was buried in June 1887 in The Ellis Cemetery near Montezuma, Mercer County, Ohio.
