William Nathan "Billy" SHERBET (Aaron2, Nathan1) was born on November 17, 1854 near Sulpher Springs, Benton (now Calhoun) County, Alabama. The following are varient spellings of Billy's surname found in various records: SHURBET; SHURBETT; SHERBERT. He married Eliza C.(aroline?) "Lizzie" PRATER on December 20, 1877 near Cross Plains (now Piedmont), Calhoun County, Alabama [M2]. Lizzie was born in December 1860 near Cross Plains, Calhoun County, Alabama. She is the daughter of James and Rebecca Nabors PRATER.
Billy and Lizzie had the following children: Lena Albertine SHERBET, Rhoda Lula Regina "Lou" SHERBET, Willie Frances SHERBET, John Roland SHERBERT, Charles Lewis "Charley" SHERBERT, Hosea "Skinner" SHERBET, Ernest Henry SHERBERT, Mary Adaline SHERBET and Mae Belle SHERBET. They were living in Calhoun County, Alabama, according to the census ,in 1880. Sometime in the late 1880s or early 1890s they moved to the Lookout Mountain area in DeKalb and Cherokee County, Alabama.
Lizzie died about 1896 near Collinsville, DeKalb County, Alabama. She was buried about 1896 at The Yellow Creek Baptist Cemetery near Leesburg, Cherokee County, Alabama. Billy wore a long beard, according to my Grandma Sula BURT one time Billy was out with his cronies and they tried to convince him to shave off his beard. He told them if they could find a large number (cannot remember the number) of new pennies he would shave off his beard. Apparently his friends rode all over the country side looking for this large number of new pennies. Surprisingly they were sucsessful and Billy shaved off his beard.
He died at the home of his daughter Willie HIGGINGBOTHAM on December 9, 1935 in Leesburg, Cherokee County, Alabama. Billy was buried next to Lizzie on December 10, 1935 at the Yellow Creek Baptist Cemetery near Leesburg, Cherokee County, Alabama.
Ruth Caroline SHURBETT (Aaron2, Nathan1) was born about 1858 in Benton (now Calhoun) County, Alabama. The following are varient spellings of Caroline's surname SHERBET, SHURBETand SHURBETT. All of the spellings have been found for her in various records. She married James SIMMS on November 23, 1875 in Calhoun County, Alabama. He was born about 1855 in Alabama. They had the following children: Henry SIMMS and John F. SIMMS. At this time nothing else is known about this family.
Willis Monroe SHERBIT (Aaron2, Nathan1) was born on April 13, 1861 in Calhoun County, Alabama. The following are varient spellings of Willis' surname SHERBERT, SHERBET, SHERBITTand SHERBIT. All of the spellings have been found for him in various records. It appears sometime in the late 1880's he moved to Texas. He may have moved with his parents when they left Alabama. They may also have lived in Mississippi.
He married Rosa Lee "Rosey" WALLACE on December 2, 1890 in Texas. She was born on October 25, 1866 in Mississippi. They had the following children: Madie Adaline SHERBIT, Wheeler Monroe SHERBIT, Dan Dansby SHERBIT, Olga Lee SHERBIT and William Buck SHERBIT.
Willis died on June 28, 1942 in Kaufman County, Texas. He is buried at Morrow Chapel, 7 miles east of Kaufman, Kaufman County, Texas. Rosey died in August 25, 1948 in Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas. She is also buried in Morrow Chapel.
Nancy Jane "Nan" SHERBETT (Aaron2, Nathan1) was born in June 1862 in Calhoun County, Alabama. The following are varient spellings of Nan's surname SHERBET, SHURBET and SHERBERT. All of the spellings have been found for her in various records. She married Jabe Curry PIKE on March 21, 1882 in Calhoun County, Alabama. Jabe was born on October 30, 1858 in Calhoun County, Alabama. He was the son of John West and Nancy Nolan PIKE. They had the following children: Roland Lee PIKE, Arthur Nolan PIKE, Nancy "Nannie" PIKE, Ollie C. PIKE, Daniel Aaron "Dan" PIKE, Jessye Jewell PIKE and Mae Alford "Madie" PIKE.
In 1886 Jabe, Nan, Roland and Arthur moved from Calhoun County, Alabama to Bosque County, Texas near Iredell. They farmed between Meridian and Iredell for several years. Nannie, Ollie, Dan, Jessye and Mae were all born there. They then moved to Hico, then back to Bosque County after their sons finished school in Hico. In about 1915 they moved to Wheeler County, Texas near Shamrock. In their latter years the moved with their son to Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas.
Nan died on September 26, 1946 in Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas. She is buried at Mitchell cemetery in Iredell, Bosque County, Texas. Jabe died in 1955 in Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas. He is also buried at Mitchell Cemetery.
Josephine Frances "Josie" SHURBETT (Aaron2, Nathan1) was born on July 27, 1866 near Piedmont in Calhoun County, Alabama. She married Luke Monroe SEXTON on April 16, 1882 in Calhoun County, Alabama. Luke was born on November 18, 1860 in Calhoun County, Alabama. He is the son of Seaborn and Louisa Catherine Peace SEXTON. They had the following children: Elba SEXTON, Daniel Draper SEXTON, (Infant son) SEXTON, (Infant son) SEXTON, Lou Addie "Ludie" SEXTON, Minnie Belle SEXTON, Foster Monroe "Monk" SEXTON and James Leonard "Buck" SEXTON
Luke died on June 12, 1936 in Piedmont, Calhoun County, Alabama. He was buried in June 1936 at The Littlejohn Cemetery near Allsup in Calhoun County, Alabama. Josie died on May 22, 1942 in Piedmont, Calhoun County, Alabama. She was buried in 1942 also at The Littlejohn Cemetery near Allsup in Calhoun County, Alabama.
Adaline Mariah "Addie" SHERBETT (Aaron2, Nathan1) was born on September 21, 1870 in Alabama. Addie married James Henry Fornie PEACE on April 27, 1889 in Calhoun County, Alabama. Fornie was born on September 17, 1861 in Calhoun County, Alabama. He is the son of Jeffree Jesse and Margaret R(ebecca?) Prater PEACE. They had the following children: Aera Ada PEACE, Emmett Crook PEACE, Walker Samuel PEACE, Shadie Belle PEACE, Tabitha Cumi PEACE, Hegler PEACE, Doyle Earl PEACE, Troy Bomar "Buck" PEACE and Linder Meadow PEACE
Fornie died on February 20, 1936 in Piedmont, Calhoun County, Alabama. He was buried in 1936 at The Littlejohn Cemetery. Addie died on February 11, 1948 in Piedmont, Calhoun County, Alabama. She was buried in February 1948 also at The Littlejohn Cemetery.
Samuel R. "Sam" SHERBETT (Aaron2, Nathan1) was born on April 27, 1872 in Calhoun County, Alabama. The following are varient spellings of Sam's surname found in records: SHURBET; SHERBERT; SHERBET & SHERBETT. Sam moved to Texas in the late 1880's or early 1890's with his parents. He married Frances "Fannie" (maiden name is Unknown) in Texas. Fannie was born about 1877 in Tennessee.
Fannie died on February 15, 1932 in Ennis, Ellis County, Texas. While visting at his sister's, Nan PIKE, home Sam died. He died on August 23, 1935 in Shamrock, Wheeler County, Texas. Sam was buired on August 24, 1935 at the City Cemetery in Shamrock.
