CONSTRUCTION CONSTRUCTIONThe Senior Pastors of the New Life Center Church of God are Dr. Bill R. and Julia M. Phillips. They started the Church as a pioneer work (Home missions) in 1980. They bring 40 plus years of ministerial experience to the Redding area.
Pastor and the then Julia Mae Holmes met each other in the Fresno area some 40 years ago. They fell fast in love and soon married (September 13, 1958). In 1958 Pastor Phillips switched his affiliation from the Assemblies of God to the Church of God. He and Julia were sent to Neddles, California to start a church in 1959. They established a Church there and Pastored until 1964. Both of their children: Kim and Bill were born there. They spent two years (1964-1966) in Hawaii. Then they were sent to Marysville, California to establish a Church. They established a church there and Pastored for about three years. It was while in Marysville that Pastor was elected to his first position on a State council (1968). In 1969 Pastor and Julia took the Pastorate at Salinas, California.
Pastor and Julia left Salinas for Redding in 1980. Pastor and Julia answered God's call to the North State to start a new Church. The Church first met at The Holiday Inn on Hilltop Drive. Eventually they met at the Masonic Lodge. In December 1982 the Church bought the property on Old Oregon Trail. While in the building process the Church met in the 20 foot wide by 100 foot long building already on the premises. The first Sunday in the old building was on January 04, 1983.
The Church was formally charted on April 24, 1983 with 22 members. The groundbreaking of the current facility began in June 1984. In January 1988 the new facility was ready to be occupied. The first service in the new facility was held in the (now The Clarence Scarbrough Hall) Fellowship Hall. The official dedication of the new facility was on Mother's Day Sunday, May 08, 1988.
