This page is an index of Birth records from Darke County, Ohio Birth Records Books that I have on the MARTIN family. My children have MARTIN ancestors that lived in Darke County some dating back to the 1830s. Not being able to actually go to Greenville, Ohio I did almost next to the best thing I order microfilm copies of the original birth records books. The original handwritten registers have been microfilmed (film # 1030768). Just like census records, they are quite hard to read most of the time. Between the quality of the books, (I believe almost 100 years old at the time of the microfilm) the microfilm itself and old time cursive it seemed almost impossible to read. I had gone through Volume I and II of the Birth registers and wrote in a notebook the births for MARTINS. I believe I got all the births from Volume I (1867-1878) and Majority of Volume II (1878-1889). Even though Volume III (1889-1898) was on the film I did not record any of the MARTIN births from it. I did have page 34 from Volume II photocopied and two pages from Volume III photocopied
I plan on creating pages for all the MARTIN births and the few pages I had photocopied. The pages are being done just as they were written into the ledgers. I did not write down all data for MARTIN births, just page, birth number, name, birth date, parents names and place of birth or parents residence. I recorded the gender if it was not certain as to sex (i.e., infant, intials or blank) I did miss a few of these though. I have alphabetized them so that it would be a little easier to research. I hope the pages will help persons researching the MARTIN Surname.
