Redding CyberMall's Bugs & Fixes

I will be putting info here as I gather it. This first one will save many of you alot of grief! Microsoft's answer to EVERYTHING is "re-install"???!!!

WININET.DLL Page Fault Error FIX

Invalid Page Fault:

You may want to print this or save as text. I'll just about guarantee that you will run into the problem somewhere along the line. The problem effects at least the following programs:

Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0-4.01

The Office part of Microsoft Office 95/97

Explorer (file manager) in Windows 95

You will get the following error and the program will not run.

Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module WININET.DLL at xxxx:xxxxxx. The error will change with the application trying to launch. WORD can cause it as well as IEXPLORE. The problem is caused by files in c:\windows\temporary internet files\ and in c:\windows\history becoming corrupt. Why it happens is a Microsoft mystery.

Here is the fix

The files must be removed from DOS. They are read-only and Explorer will not delete them. Exit Windows and restart the computer in DOS mode. - Hit the F8 key and choose "Command Prompt Only" when you see the "starting Windows 95" message on restarting the computer.

Type the following

deltree c:\windows\history hit enter and tell it yes

when you get the prompt back

deltree c:\windows\tempor~1 hit enter and tell it yes again

This one will take a while!! There are many files to delete.

When the prompt returns, type WIN to restart windows.

Run SCANDISK to check for other problems. Run DEFRAG to fill the big hole you left on the hard drive.

Exit windows and reboot the computer.

When windows is restarted click on "start" and go to "run"

On the line type regsvr32 cachevu.dll. This will rebuild the bits and pieces that you deleted with deltree.

All is fixed and should be running fine until next time!!
